about the workshop
in this workshop we will bring elements of the australian landscape together to form one image, in a genre naomi calls progression painting. participants will explore different perspectives and compositions, collating various environmental elements to create a painted scene that encourages the viewer's eye to move around the work rather than focus on one point.
the process involves layering and merging several images so that they form one continuous landscape. participants will work from images that they have sourced prior to the commencement of the workshop. the images can be any landscape elements that inspire the student, such as large open fields, paddocks, fauna, flora and trees.
participants will complete a small-scale painting using gouache on paper. they will learn to control the paint application process, using small brush strokes and minimal amounts of gouache. we will concentrate on learning to paint confidently, in a simple style. by the end of the course, participants will have learned how to create progressive painted scenes with encompassing views that are also intimate and delicate.
